Is it true that to be a female mormon missionary you give up the opportunity to get married?

I've recently been praying, and it seems to me as if the lord would like me to serve a mormon mission.... When I told my friend that, she told me that by the time female missionaries return, all of the best guys are taken.... Is this true? Or is this just her opinion? What are your thoughts on me serving a mission? (Please only LDS answer)
