How do you know if a guy that lives far away still likes youu?

There is this guy that went to my school who I really like, & I'm positive he liked me..problem, his parents are missionaries, they live thousands of miles away, and I don't know when they plan on coming back to the U.S. exactly, but probably in the next 3 years. we kept in contact a little & he still seemed into me but its been a few months and i feel like he's avoiding me, if that is even possible in this situation. It's been about a year since I've seen him, & i still have feelings for him. how do i know if it might be worth it? or am i being ridiculous for still liking him? whats important for me to consider? i just don't know. there's more but ya thats the basics.
