Help with universal remote!?

My boyfriend has a ONN lcd television that hes had for 3years, the remote broke last night so we went to the nearest Asda and got a OneForAll remote control it was �9. In the booklet at the back were a couple of codes for the ONN television. The set up seemed very straight forward but after typing in the codes, the television won't turn off. Tried manually pushing the Ch+ like it says in the booklet until the television turns off because it sends out a signal i think it said. After 2 hours of trying we gave up. We went to Argos today to see if we could get a Point and Click remote but we had no luck and settles for one at �6.19 that said it was preprogrammed. Just got back and its not working, its the same idea with the codes and manually searching etc but the television just won't turn off like its meant to. Any help would be appreciated as we always play xbox and we're going insane here! Thanks! Im in the UK also.
